Grief sensitivity in pediatric practice

Grief is a normal and natural reaction to the end-of-life process when a child is dying. In this course, we offer a grief framework that should help healthcare professionals understand and meet the emotional needs of families who have children who are at end-of-life.

Outcomes

  • Describe the impact that a child’s death can have on the family in terms of primary and secondary losses
  • Understand what caregivers may need when faced with the death of their child
  • Communicate in a sensitive manner with a dying child and their family
  • Relate theories of grief to practices in the workplace
  • Demonstrate self-awareness in relation to emotions around loss, grief, and bereavement
